Overall: Must try harder.
I have an original 2G iPhone and now have a 3G iPhone with work. I’ve been comparing the two and have some initial thoughts on what needs to get sorted.
The signal strength on the 3G phone is worse than the 2G one, but, only with 3G turned on. If you turn 3G off on O2’s UK network the signal strength goes back to full. Also the 3G data speeds are seemingly only slightly faster than EDGE which is a disappointment.
Neither the 2G or 3G phones map “locate me” function works anymore and with the 3G iPhone I can’t any sign that GPS exists at all again with this being one of the key new features and potential sell points for me to upgrade mine, a disappointment.
In both the Settings > Phone menu and the contact list on the 2G phone “My number” is displayed at the top which is quite handy, on the 3G phone there’s no sign of that. It may be something I’ve not setup right but in side by side comparisons of menu’s etc I can’t spot it.
The screen on the 3G is definitely brighter and as reviews suggest slightly more yellow, doesn’t really matter though as I think it looks better. Also the sound quality on the 3G is superior both in ear sound quality and volume and the speaker quality and volume.
Apple are in beta for 2.1 which I hope fixes these niggly things. Locate me not working and crappy 3G pick up could be O2’s fault, but, it could be hardware or software. I’d lean to software and Apple as on the 2G with 1.1.4 locate me worked just fine.
As for MobileMe, well, after by 99 remaining days are up thanks to Apple for 2 lots of extra 30 days, I think I’ll be ditching it. SpanningSync 2.0 is looking like the main contender at the moment.
Went to see a preview screening of the new Denzel Washington film, Man On Fire this morning. In short, it’s excellent, a must see.
Denzel plays Creasy a former Marine who swears vengeance on those who committed an unspeakable act against the family he was hired to protect. Based in Mexico City he is bodyguard to Pita (Dakota Fanning).
The plot is clever and keeps you involved all the time, probably the best film I’ve seen this year, and one of the best I’ve seen Washington in. It’s about 2 and half hours but it’s well worth it. Released in the UK this Friday.
As you’ll have probably seen by now, the next Star Wars film has it’s official title. Revenge Of The Sith. Looking forward to seeing what they do with this one. The original 3 are of course better, though the new “prequels” do fill a hole and the transformation to Vader should be good. Now all we have to do is wait until May 19, 2005.
Oh yes, the first Romzom film to be released. Romzom you say? Yes, Romantic Comedy with Zombies.Simon Pegg, star of amungst other things “Spaced” wrote and starred in this very very funny film. A definate fried gold (thanks Jam) moment. Go look at UIP’s site for more. A full 5/5 for this one. Can’t wait for the DVD 🙂
Possibly one of the worst films ever. It’s shocking bad, though it is amusing but in a so bad it’s amusing style. Written, directed, produced and starred in by Ben Stiller I feel he should keep to the acting. Hoping Starsky and Hutch this weekend is going to be better!
Lord Of The Rings III – Return of The King, wow, how good. Probably one of the best films I’ve seen. The battle scenes were epic, the story involved and it although I had doubts if I could sit through 3.5 hours worth or film I did, and it was well worth it.Having had the first 2 DVD collectors box sets for Christmas I can’t wait for the 3rd to be released. For those of you who’ve read the book, it won the BBC’s Big Read competition.
Saw School Of Rock starring Jack Black on saturday afternoon, not bad at all. Very amusing, predictable but worth watching. If you’ve missed the cinema run get it on dvd. 7 out of 10.
